Renil Paramel

Renil Paramel is Senior Partner at Strategy of Things, a Silicon Valley-based innovation catalyst that brings science, breakthrough strategies and disruptive digital technologies to help cities become smarter and more responsive. He recently developed San Mateo County’s (USA) smart region strategy, created and launched its innovation lab (SMC Labs), and completed a smart streetlight strategy for a major regional utility company.

Renil has over 22 years of experience in professional consulting, serving clients in Business and IT divisions of various multinational companies and municipal organizations. Prior to Strategy of Things, Renil was a Vice President with Gartner Consulting, and worked for both Accenture’s and Deloitte’s IT strategy practices.

Renil’s current focus is on Smart Cities, Enterprise and Industrial IoT. Key technology areas include end-to-end IoT solution from sensors, gateways, connectivity, cloud, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Renil serves as an industry mentor to lab innovation teams at the US Department of Energy’s Building Technology’s Office, is a member of Telecom Industry Association Smart Buildings working group defining standards and framework for a smart buildings certification program. He is also a member of the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Global City Teams Challenge (GCTC) Wireless Supercluster, Smart Building Action Cluster and Smart Region Collaborative.

Renil graduated from University of Mumbai with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science and has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he completed the certificate program “Internet of Things: Roadmap to a Connected World” from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
